A Letter To Our Allies

Dear Friends of Racial Justice,

We deeply appreciate your support! Thank you for attending the February 18 Mill Valley City Council meeting and for your supportive letters and comments. Thank you also for being with us in spirit if you couldn’t attend. If you haven’t seen it, here’s a link to a Pacific Sun article , “City Council Clash with Equity Task Force.”

The City Council rejected the DEI Task Force’s two foundational recommendations: to create a Racial Equity Plan for Mill Valley with the guidance of an expert DEI facilitator, and to create a permanent DEI Commission. The staff’s “Work Plan” that the Council voted to support, is long on words but short on any real commitment to actions that will bring racial equity to Mill Valley: it contains virtually no goals, objectives, timelines, performance or accountability measures. Its piecemeal approach is the opposite of what experts recommend for addressing institutional bias.

The City’s ineffectual approach clearly demonstrates the need in Mill Valley for an ongoing Force for Racial Justice. We plan to continue under that name to organize and unite with allies to end systemic racism in our County. We hope you will join us in this important struggle. Please join our email list so we can keep you informed of future developments and advocacy opportunities. (Send an email to MillValleyDEI@gmail.com with the subject line: Join email list.)

The next City Council meeting is Monday, March 1, at 6:30 p.m. We plan to speak during public open time at the start of the meeting and, as always, welcome your participation.

Warm regards,

MV Force for Racial Justice

(formerly Mill Valley DEI Task Force)
