
MVFREE Responds to Supervisors Consideration of Historic Sheriff Oversight Proposal
In September of 2022, the Marin County Board of Supervisors launched a process to develop a program of Sheriff’s oversight as authorized by AB 1185. The MVFREE Police Team supports the Working Group’s proposal subject to some clarifications and revisions that we believe are necessary to ensure that the Civil Oversight Commission (COC) and Inspector General (IG) have the resources and authority they need to ensure their effectiveness. MVFREE Partners with Mill Valley to End Race-Based Calls to Police
The City of Mill Valley and MVFREE are jointly launching a public awareness campaign to remind everyone that a person’s race or appearance is NEVER a proper basis for calling the police.






Racial Disparities in Policing in Mill Valley (2022 Report)
Using data from the Mill Valley Police Department, under the Racial and identity Profiling Act of 2015 (RIPA), the MVFREE Police Team found large and persistent racial disparities in Mill Valley police practices, specifically that Black people are detained by Mill Valley police at 6.5 times the rate of White people, and Latinx people are detained at 3.02 times the rate of White people.
